The COVID19 pandemic has had a huge impact on air travel, causing many travelers to be concerned about passing through airports quickly and safely. Unclear instructions from airports can lead people to be nervous, or afraid of essential travel. They may feel uncomfortable about asking for help to get to where they need to go.

Our proposal is to redesign YVR’s current app, focusing on supporting safety measures and YVR’s TAKEcare initiative to provide a cleaner and safer experience. The app provides travelers with easy-to-read travel information, as well as real-time, contactless AR navigation, from check-in, straight to their airplane gate.

Takecare is a mobile phone application that can be downloaded by the passenger before or during their visit to the YVR airport. Before accessing the main content of the app, users are informed about what they can expect at YVR with their new COVID19 safety measures and regulations.

On the main dashboard, users can find all the resources they’ll need in order to have a safe and efficient airport navigation experience.

YVR’s health and safety precautions are displayed using short descriptions and easy to recognize graphics. This can not only help prepare travelers for what to expect before they arrive at YVR, but also helps YVR staff by giving them a trustworthy, up-to-date place to refer them to.

One of YVR’s top priorities is providing an accessible airport for everyone. Here, users can find a wealth of information ranging from accessible transportation, curbside assistance, to animal relief areas and public telephones.

We’ve revamped YVRs Passenger Guides to be more personalized than ever. Find a guide that fits your specific needs, whether you’re travelling to Hawaii via Air Canada, or coming home to Vancouver via WestJet. Our Passenger Guides will give you the step-by-step instructions for where to check-in, claim your luggage, and more.

Finding your gate has never been easier with our newly implemented Map and AR views. Using the Map view will give you a birds eye view of YVR, showing you where you are, where your destination is, and the most safe and efficient ways to get there.

Having a bit of trouble deciphering the instructions? No worries, we’ve got you covered. Switch to the AR view in order to have the directions displayed right in front of you! Digital signage and arrows will help point you in the right direction so that you can make it to your gate safely and with time to spare.
