Most Software Engineering Influencers are Trash

Hi everyone – a few disclaimers about this video. Firstly, I’m mainly referring to channels (mostly on TikTok tbh) geared towards junior developers, who pass out redundant, and sometimes misleading advice towards those who are trying to break into the industry.

Additionally, I’m by no means perfect – and am quite literally mocking myself in the thumbnail with the FAANG logo thing. Everyone wants to do what they can for views, I just ask that if you’re making videos, at least try and be unique so that you don’t waste your viewers’ time.

That being said, it seems like the burden has shifted to the viewer nowadays to be very careful about what they watch so that a)they are certain it’s actually accurate and b)they haven’t watching the same thing multiple other times on the same or different channels.

There are plenty of bad (wasteful/redundant) swe influencers out there, and plenty of good (interesting/unique) ones too – I’m not planning on naming any names because I don’t wanna piss anyone off, but as a viewer start trying to tell the difference.
