In this example, the behavior of the gliders has been tuned such that they appear wary, almost adversarial. The gliders’ acceleration has been mapped to pitch as well as amplitude and aspects of timbre. Position also influences timbre.

About the project:
The Gliders are a unique class of oscillating modulators. They glide autonomously across spectral landscapes, detecting and avoiding spectral energy, yet they are themselves spectral energy sources. Their control logic is remarkably simple, and yet the resulting motions are neither regular, nor chaotic, nor random, and can best be described in terms of their behaviors, which are often uncannily zoomorphic—at times suggestive of animal play, with feints, leaps, and retreats.

Although gliders operate autonomously, their motion can be influenced indirectly through 3 defining parameters, as well as through manipulation of the spectral environment itself. Slopes of variable amplitude can be generated dynamically using a myriad of functions, and fingers can be used as barriers in touch-enabled realizations.
